Who is the Alton Area Tax Project?

The Alton Area Tax Project is a group of volunteers are certified IRS tax preparers. They help folks with an annual income of less than $60,000 get their taxes done for free.

Although they operate on our campus, they are not a part of Lewis and Clark. Additional questions should be directed to the project:

What does AATP do?

They prepare federal and state tax returns for FREE, for folks with an annual income of less than $60,000. They cannot do out of scope returns, which include rental, farm, and business returns.

Where are they located?

The Alton Area Tax Project operates out of the lower floor of the Templin Nursing Building, here on our Godfrey Campus.

Is it too early to make an appointment?

Appointments typically open in January. For 2022 taxes, the appointment scheduler is now (January 2023) open for community members to use. Appointments are required, so visit https://AltonAreaTaxProject.com/appointment to schedule an appointment now. This year in order to reduce wait times, the AATP is asking that clients have their intake interview at the scheduled appointment and then come back the following week to sign and retrieve their return.
